Our latest project at the Benefits Board is a few short, informative videos we believe will be helpful to church members, pastors, and especially church treasurers. To access the five new videos, simply go to our website, www.benefitsboard.com, and click on the box labeled “Church Treasurer Videos” in the bottom right corner of the home page.
The five videos, ranging in length from 2 minutes to 11 minutes, address a variety of topics, including the following:
- Who is a Minister?
- Who is an Employee?
- Charitable Contribution Receipts
- Gifts and Love Offerings and,
- Church Budgeting
The video on gifts and love offerings should be viewed by every pastor and church treasurer immediately. The topic of “what’s love got to do with it?” is addressed at length in this most helpful discussion.
The video clips are from a conference held recently, sponsored by the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA), the Benefits Board, and several other denominational pension plans. The featured speakers are Dan Busby, President of the ECFA, and John Van Drunen, legal counsel for the ECFA. Mr. Busby and Mr. Van Drunen are the co-authors of the annual Zondervan publications entitled “Minister’s Tax & Financial Guide” and “Church and Nonprofit Tax & Financial Guide.” Both gentlemen are certified public accountants and Mr. Van Drunen is also an attorney. Their expertise on these subjects is unsurpassed and through the short videos, you can obtain a good overview of the issue under discussion. More detailed information can be gained by a thorough review of their books or by visiting the ECFA web site at www.ecfa.org.
The five videos now available are just the beginning of our effort to bring to you the most current information on topics of interest for churches, pastors, and church treasurers. In the coming weeks, additional video clips will be added on issues impacting the church of today.
If you have any questions about issues raised in these videos, please do not hesitate to contact us. We can be reached by e-mail at info@benefitsboard.com or by phone at (877) 478-7190. We look forward to hearing from you.
